Time for a little update … isn’t it … first of all , this site needs some rebuilding , cause the mainpage is getting to heavy … I’m planning to make the mainpage in some sort of PHP blog style , wich makes it faster and much easier to write small stories for me …
What has been going on ? , well , I’ff been verry busy building a wireless network with some of my friends , and yes it works … build some real simple antenna’s and stuff, but all of that info you can find in the wireless section of this website … Next to that I did a little oilchange …. and I found out that my brakepads are gone 🙂 those powerdiscs eat them for breakfast … Also I made a ride on a motercycle , that was a nice experience , was a real long time since I’ve had driven anything with 2 wheels and a engine , but Karel was so kind to trust me with his nice Honda TransAlp , not a recordbreaking machine but still a verry nice motorcycle for learning purpose … maybe I’m old and wise enough to get my license now … and a motor is a cheap way of transportation compared to the old cabby …

Perfect summer for a cabriolet , haven’t seen rain in a long long time , this is bound to be the dryest and hottest summer ever , the car needs some maintainance , the valves need to be adjusted , cause they are a little noisy and the car uses a little amount of oil … and I have to change the oil again … for the rest she drives perfect … sometimes I start getting bored of the lack of power , overtaking on the highway isn’t her best point , but then again , when I open the throtle on a small country road the speeds still frighten me , she can take corners so fast , keeps amazing me , 4 wheel sliding some feet before the corner and maximum grip in the bends … verry nice balance … would really like to drive a faster car sometimes …

Just came back from another weekend Germany , went there to see the oldtimer GP on the Nurburgring GP circuit on Sunday , started the trip on Saturday 9 august and arrived in the morning , went to the camping to unload the car and stash the trash . After that I had the whole day to check out the Nordschleife , amazing day , cause lots of oldtimers and extreme cars were present in the region cause of the oldtimer GP … saw a huge collection of Ferraries , Maseraties and the usual amount of BMW’s ( including CSL’s ) and Tuned Porsches … It’s carlover haven over there , GT40 , cobra’s , Wesfields , Radical’s , MacLaren F1 and stuff like that , amazing … And the best thing is : at last I drove my own car on the Nordschleife , behind Jeroen’s Clio Williams Rallycar to show me the way arround the 22 km long track ! , the car stay’s perfect even after the 1250 km I drove last 2 day’s , only the oil temp went a little high ( 120 C ) and the car could use a little more power going uphill on the nordschleife …

Went to a yunkyard to get some spare parts for the cabby, found a perfect car just standing there to be stripped , so took the opertunaty to strip it , now I have spare dashboard , 2 new taillights , lots of rubbers and other stuff …

Been to the nurburgring again , had allot of fun driving the old cabby over there , but did not drive the old Nordschleife cause I heared a strange noise again , later back home I checked the car and noticed one of the CV-joints had just died … anyway, I had a great weekend and again saw some of the most awsome cars on the planet going full speed … I really have to go there more often …

Had a strange noise in the car when I made a trip to Amsterdam yesterday , but it seems it’s nothing to worry about . The tyres are pretty ok on te dry tarmac , but they are amazing on the wett tarmac , those things just don’t seem to give up , they keep finding grip . Will be going to Germany this weekend , don’t know for sure if I’m going 1 or 2 days yet … gonna have fun and drive the Nurburgring for sure ! The car is pretty good on fuel consumption too , made a new record 1:12.5 !

New tyres on my cabby , at last I was able to buy the Toyo Proxis T1-S for a good price … they seem to be a bit smaller then the old tyres ( viking ) , but they should perform better … will soon find out I guess … will test them on the Nurburgring end of this month … picture …

Had some troubles with the exhaust , but fixed it after some while , but doing that the car fell off the jack and the jack pierced the trunk , so now I’ve got a hole in my trunkbottom … really need new rubber , I’m looking for Toyo Proxis T1-S in 195-45-15 now , hard to find for a nice price …
Bought a new digital photocamera , not an state of the art piece of equipment , but good enough to make some nice pics again … expect better pic’s from now on on this site 🙂

Know what caused the strange noise and vibrations , one of the wheelbearings was broken , and destroyed some other part … 110 euro later it was fixed … Tommorow I will go to Eindhoven where I will spend the night , and on Wensday I’m going to the Belgium circuit of Zolder , real pitty that I’m not able to go there with my own car to race … but I’m sure I will have a nice couple of days there …. next weekend I’m planning on making another trip to Germany ( nurburgring ) …

Drove a little to much and to fast I guess cause the car starts making noise, but she still drives beautifull, the brakes are verry nice but produce much dust on the wheels … The engine seems to get faster, makes high revs without problems and runs smooth, front tyres are getting bad verry fast due to the high cornering speeds I make with the car since it’s not extreme fast on a straight line I optimalized it for the corners … and that works … she needs a checkup and smaller tyres and then she’s ready for the summer … first modification comming up are soms serious sportseats …

Yesterday I made a 750 km ride , I took part in a car event wich made me drive trough narrow streets and small country roads together with lots of other people … verry much different cars took part , from Cirtoen 2Cv until Maserati … lots of fun , and verry fast rides … it were the first miles I drove with the new ATE brakes and Textar brakepads , and they did their job well … I also filled the engine up with new oil to be sure she wouldn’t let me down , and she didn’t ! … nice weather too … Hope to do this more often this year …

Nice month , I was able to go to the Nurburgring again , made some amazing passengerlaps in an Audi S6+ and Renault Clio Williams . It was the opening of this years raceseason over there . Also I was able to have a test drive in that same 360 BHP Audi the week later on homeground … amazing car … made a passengerride in a brandnew Audi RS6 and an old Sportsquattro … both verry nice and breathtaking fast . For this weekend I have planned another LANparty ( check www.lanpartys.nl ) and next weekend I’ll make a sort of small tourrally in the cabrio … It’s slightly frightening that the cabby doesn’t seem to have any problems anymore … seems the car is really taking my abuse verry well now …

Yesterday I was able to drive both my cars on a small racetrack , first the v360 , but due to broken rearshocks and a failing fuelpumprelais I wasn’t able to give a nice show sliding and drifting arround the track like the last time I was there … Lucky me , I also had my good old cabby there , so in the afternoon I was able to drive on a half wet track and check the balance in the car … well … that’s ok , 4 wheelsliding arround the short corners and little understeared in the long half wet corners hitting the 7000 rpm in second gear … a little flick did the trick , and even in long corners I was able to let the back of the car breakout really easy … the stearing on low speeds is a dream … handling is so well the only botlleneck are the cheap tyres right now …

The cabby is just fine now , needs some new oil but otherwise it drives perfect made lots of miles last week … 2 march I will go to the Midland circuit once more with the volvo , but the volvo still makes strange noise from the rear , don’t know what it is , and I want to lower the car so the handling improves … 9 march I’m going to the Nurburgring again , this time not with my own car , but I will be a passenger in David’s awsome Audi S6+ … such a car makes the trip much shorter that’s for sure … for now , I will have to check the rear axle’s and stuff on the v360 … keep you informed about that …

Long time no see … well since the volvo I didn’t use the cabby anymore , only today I started her up and took her for an little spin, she drives lovely but still smokes above 5500 rpm …
The volvo is fun fun fun … for only 99 euro I never had so much fun , the car lookes verry slow and people aspect an old man driving it , but in real the car is pretty fast .I can hit the 100km/h in <10 sec. , so every traffic light I have some folks pulling up to my bumper ... but as soon as the light goes green the only thing most people see is soms smoke from the rear tyres and a Volvo badge getting smaller verry fast ... lots of dude driving gti's and stuff like that are supprised by the old volvo ... since I pulled out all the noise reducing stuff the car has got allot lighter wich makes it much easier to handle and much faster ...fun fun fun ... And at last I'm learning how to drive a rear wheel driven car ... that really needs allot of getting used to ... but even my friends start to see the humor of the volvo so 1 of them also bought one and the other bought an old Ford Sierra for the same purpose ... drifting that is ! I REALLY WANT SNOW !!! cause RWD is no fun on dry roads … I’m checking the weather forecast every hour but no result …in the north part of the Netherlands it’s just great weather … freezing cold and sunny … but when it rains you can see it on the small weather picture I’ll have on the main page for the winter … (removed) 2-11-2002 Tommorow I will drive the Volvo for the first time on a small race track just to learn how a rearwheeldrive car handles … I tuned the engine a little and I swapped the rear wheels with those from the cabby … for more grip … lets see how 1050 kg of old steel will go through a corner , I’ve heared it’s gonna rain :-) 23-11-2002 Check the V360 section … 20-10-2002 I have a problem , Saturday I went for a drive with some friends , and as we were at an traffic light I thought it was funny to push the pedal to the metal , cause most of us drive cars with more or less the same specs. but when I noticed nobody overtaking me I was a little curious , I checked the mirrors and noticed a HUGE amount of smoke comming from MY exhaust !! oh oh … at that time I was driving at 6200 rpm. whoops … so I shifted to 4th gear and carefully drove the place we were supposed to meet … today I again had larg ammounts of smoke comming from the exhaust ,the smoe smells like oil , wich also explaines the white collor … it only starts comming at >5000 rpm. I have no powerloss, the oil and coolant temp are just fine and I’m not so stupid to open the throtle with a cold engine ( <80 C. ) So I don't know whats wrong now, but I do know it is gonna cost me another fortune ... damned ... why me ... 17-10-2002 Ok … I repaired the windowwashers , the horn , the rearbearings , some small stuff and had the car checked by a specialist … he told me the car was perfect ! so thats pretty good news … the nice weahter has made place for the rain and wind … and the mini still ain’t ready … just don’t have the time and drive to start working on it verry hard … but next week I’ve planned a small brake so maybe I will do something usefull … 3 november I will again drive on the small circuit of Lelystad , so I think 4 november I will post some nice movies about my car afterall … 08-10-2002 Nothing much to say , had another succesful LANparty , repaired some minor things on the VW , did some small stuff on the mini , am completly broke , sailed just one time in the boat … that’s it … 16-08-2002 Again I went to the Nurburgring … that’s an 500 km drive to get there , but it’s worth it … it’s a shame the fuelprices are so high , a trip to the nurburgring costs me 145 euro on fuel only … I was able to make a passenger lap in a Audi S3 , after that I realized that my cabby isn’t so fast afterall … 10-08-2002 While driving through fast corners I found that the car was too unstable in the front or to good in the rear, that made overstear easy , that’s fun on a racetrack , but not on the public road … so I took the step to remove the frontstruts to adjust the koni’s ….tommorow I will test the new setup … 30-08-2002 …..GOT IT …. !.!.! this is the car that will be taken appart for spare parts … ain’t that a shame ? 29-08-2002 Time for some updates …. The VW runs smooth … no problems what so ever … but I still have this old Suzuki Alto … I’ve got to get rid of that car , cause yesterday I accidently bought 2 Mini’s … you know thos nice small cars ?? just lots of fun to drive and own … and cheap !! just one problem , one hasn’t got an engine and the other is one big piece of rust …. gues what … another engineswap is comming up … hehehe … pictures and a complete part of the website dedicated to mini’s is comming up … 21-08-2002 ___ a long weekend to the Nurburgring ( Germany ) What a weekend , Friday morning I stepped into the cabby and started the engine … the tank was full , the oil checked and new , the coolant too … everything was perfect , my friends were waiting in a Golf 3 GT , and we drove away … towards Germany … the longest trip I made with the car ever …. first piece of the ride ( >300 km ) I drove with the roof on , cause we didn’t stop anywhere … meanwhile the sun was shining beautifully and the tempature was rising and rising … so just past the border between the Netherlands and Germany we stopped , and I instantly putt the top down … the whole time we were driving +/- 135 km/h and the car was pretty fuel-efficient … after 450 km I decided to tank some fuel anyway … not knowing how fare I needed to drive to get to the hotel … but when I turned out the engine the radio stopped playing and the car sounded strange … so I filled her up and wanted to leave … nothing … the battery was dead … so I pushed the car ( downhill 🙂 and she started … we drove to the hotel , and on our way I saw a VW dealer … 1 hour later we had checked in , in a small town in the middle of the Nurburgring ! … and we drove the cabby to the dealer …
Amazing , what a service , bought a brand new alternator from a mecanic’s private collection 🙂 and fixed the car by using the local VW garage !!! all the stuff only costed me 110 euro !!! never had so friendly VW mecanics helping me … a shame the mecanic didn’t speak English , and my German is really bad .. but we managed to get the car running smooth again ….nice start huh … afterall it was still a verry nice hot day … and we managed to find some nice spots arround the ring … next morning saw an awsome race on the track (Porsches 911 Turbo at topspeed from 2 meter distance ), and later some locals racing their fast cars …
The sunday was the best , we had a small meeting with some guys I know from the internet ( www.gummen.org ) , verry nice people over there and I even made a passenger ride in a Porsche 944 wich was modified for the track … made some new contacts and had huge fun over there …. will go there again verry soon !!! saw the most awsome cars in my life , wow … a Porsche 911 turbo is not an exception there .. a golf 1 cabrio is more rare 🙂 didn’t find the balls to race on the track myself but will do that in time …
Sunday evening I drove off from Germany behind the owner of the 944 , and I found out you can not pay with your PIN everywhere… the stupid thing is that I found that out after filling my tank again … oops … After finding a sign with a dutch name on it ( Venlo 91 km ) I hit the pedal to the metal , and drove of , I drove verry fast because I wanted to get home before midnight , and I managed ( to my suprise ) I came home at 21:35 , so I drove +/- 475 km in +/- 3,5 hours … whoops again … that was fun … still the car was pretty fuel-efficient 1:10 orso … after all the car handled more then super in the mountains and I managed to get over 200 km/h with the top down … hehehe … this engine rocks !!!! ……. some pictures will follow , but I sure this wasn’t the last trip to the famous Nurburgring … and next time the cabby will drive the ring too !

Had a new topspeed with the roof down , in 4th gear I went till 180 km/h , after that I thougt that’s it … so I shifted to 5th gear , and damn after 1 minute pedal to the metal I noticed 190 km/h on the speedometer … 😀

Made some testruns , and the car seems to work good again , topspeed is +/- 200 km/h above that speed the car doesn’t handle verry good … The acceleration is slightly less then a Clio RSI ( 8.9 sec ) so I guess it’s 9,5 orso … today I will change some minor stuff to make the car even better …

Problem is solved … but the cause is still a mistery to me … just changed everything , improved some wiring and some hoses , and suddenly the car runs perfect … strange , and not a verry pleasant idea that the car can let me down … maybe tonight I will make a little testrun …
I went looking arround for a Volvo 360 as a second car ( 115 HP on the rear wheels is fun fun fun ) but damn , it seams that most of these cars are on a yunkyard orso , cause the 360 isn’t for sale anywhere , found 1 but the owner was a dickhead so he can go to hell with it … So if anybody has a Volvo 360 ( 2 liter injection ) for sale ( +/- 150 euro ) please send me a mail …

I have a Problem ….
Friday I changed the oil and waterhoses … checked everything and the car was ready to go … then I started the engine ( after 2 day’s of not running ) and only 3 of the 4 cillinders worked , so that was odd … the engine was a little wet cause I forgot to close the hood while it was raining the day before … Anyway 1 cillinder didn’t work , so I changed the glowplugs , kabels , rotor and all the other stuff that makes a spark … no effect … So I thougt the cillinder didn’t get good fuel … I pulled out the fuelline to that cillinder , and cleaned it … also checked the fuel pressure and I changed even the fuelpump … but now the car doesn’t start at all … the engine is dead and it won’t start no more …. Yesterday I had another trackday ,but I didn’t manage to go there in the cabrio …

Yesterday I bought new oil, new coolant , new hoses, new oilfilter , and some lights for the dash … while adding this small VDO lights to my asstray and sigaret lighter I made a mistake , cause the lightswitch was on fire when I turned it on … so again I will have to build out and in the dash ( grrrrr ) , today I begon to change the oil , and I will finnish that tommorow , Hope to have the car running perfect before Saturday , cause then I will go to the Midland circuit again for a little test on a oval track and slalom ..:-) But while changing some hoses I stepped in to a small piece of metal wich makes my toe hurt … now I have a really small piece of metal in my toe and every time I hit the gas the damn thing hurts , and I can’t get it out !!! Will update the site the comming week … cause I have a small vacation ( until 19 august ) .

Still trying to allign the car right … ain’t so easy as I thought … every time the car drives good in corners it sucks while driving at a little piece of straight highway at higher speeds then 120 km/h , but when I allign it so that the car stay’s easy even at speeds > 180 km/h then it has to much understeer or it makes noises in corners at stuff like that …

Had some troubles with my rear tire, monday evenin’ I found out I had a huge bumb on side of the tire … Thuesday I went back to the store that sold me the tires one year ago , ok it’s one year ago , but I only drove aprox. 1000 km on them , I know I’m not the average driver , but this shouldn’t happen to 1000 km’s old tires … see the picture and find out … oh by the way I instandly bought a new tire , the weather was far to nice to not drive the cabby 🙂

Tried to allign the car , Lifted the car a little and adjusted the camber to the max negative ammount of degrees … Makes the car much more responsive in the corners and the understeer comes much later , the car bites itselves is to the corners , with the result that the rear of the car wants to go faster then the front of the car… oversteered that is … but as long as it’s easy to control with the trotle it’s funny … At high speeds the car is still a little to light in the stear , above 150 km/h the car goes nervous ( or responsive as Josh would say ) , at speeds above 180 km/h the car gets too light , maybe a small front spoiler and a new allignment will solve that problem . Alligning the car isn’t so easy when you only have a small garage , I used a laserbeam to do that , but still it’s not so easy … will try it next week again … Also painted the strutbar under the hood , lookes much better then before …

Again cleaned the garage, drove the cabby inside to check the last points, bought another Dashboard again, this one works great . Painted the brakes. I would really like to learn more about the allignment of my car , so I adjusted the camber to the maximum and will adjust the allignment too . Also added some changes to the Lanparty site and a subscription page for an newsletter .

Past weekend we had a new LANparty , again lots of fun , but also allot of work. We made some new plans to make everything a little more easy for us . Beautiful weather the past day’s , drove the cabby allot . Again tightened the rear wheelbearings …oops… couldn’t test the actual topspeed yet, but I know it’s fast enough :-), in the sprint it’s big fun , who aspects an 20 year old looking VW to go 0-100 in less then 10 sec ? … I have another trackday planned for 3 august , hope to get more film material then . I do have a nice movie of the past trackday ( thanks to Jordy, but it’s on VHStape and my video recorder stopped working after watching it only once , so I didn’t have the opertunaty to make a DIVX out of it … yet …

What a day … had some huge fun at a racing track today with the cabby … the engine runs perfect … lots of power in second gear … had to much understeer so I couldn’t drift the car in the right agle al the way , but the handling was good and the balance was perfect … no strange reactions in fast corners and stuff like that … just perfect … next time I will improve the front suspension allot wich makes the car even quicker while cornering …. hope to have some nice material here in a while ….

The car is pissin’ me off real bad … it drive’s pretty cool , long gears but what the heck … the stearing is too light for me , but I think I can adjust that a little more … only the electrical trash in the car is the problem .. all of the sudden the signal lights don’t work anymore, and the dashboard is down … maybe it’s made by Microsoft , cause I can’t seem to understand why … everything is connected right … the little clock in the dash works so it has power , but the RPM and fuel etc . don’t work …. just don’t get it , another strange thing , I can’t get fuel in to the tank anymore … tried it at the gasstation , but no way I can’t get more then 2 liters in it or so … don’t get it dudes … is there some kind of hidden security thing in there ? please somebody help me out here will ya ? the car needs to run fast next sunday …

Today the sun was shining so we decided to work outside on the cabby, we finished the Power Stearing , tightened everything, put in some new gearbox oil , and replaced the dashboard … then it was time for some testruns . The car runs pretty well … the engine is powerfull enough to push the car to illegal speeds in no time , but the gearbox is too long to make it a sports car … the second gear is extreem long wich makes it easy to drive in the city but slow while sprinting … the Renault Clio RSI wich is owned by a friend of mine was much faster in second gear , but when he shifted to 3th I was still at second …. damn …. the handling seems ok … the new shocks in the rear are a good investment , high cornerspeeds are possible , but it could still be better I believe … that’s something to work on this week … first we’ve got a beautifull sunday comming up , that’s just perfect for a little sailing … See Ya !!!

Damn , this feels good , really missed driving the cabrio, yesterday I tested the car a little on some small roads, the engine works great, but the gears are pretty long , so it’s not really a dragster, but the car is verry good for cruising, low RPM and high speed , at 100km/h the car runs pretty silent so that’s nice too …

Today I made the first testrun with the cabby , I replaced the heater , removed the airco , started the engine en drove carefully out of the street , when the engine reached it’s best temp I pushed the pedal to the metal for just a moment , well I can asure you , the car runs well …. plenty of power …. Now I have to fix the powerstearing , and then the car is almost ready …

Thursday me and a friend went sailing with my sister and her boyfriend , what a day , beautifull weather , great wind , what a superday … now I once again know why I want my own sailingboat … Friday I started finishing the cabby , I replaced the last parts of the coolingsystem that were not very good anymore , and I started removing the last parts of the airco from the interior … I tightened the CV joints and I inflated the tires , so I only have to put in the coolant , and the car shoold be ready to run , but I still have that stupid Powerstearing to fix … if the weather is good tommorow I could just drive it for the first time … further then the driveway that is … 9 June I have a meeting and the car has to be ready for a fast run on a track then , so some finetuning is needed …

What a weekend … had another LANparty … damn that was fun … had too less sleep , but what the heck…now it’s queensday , and even now when the weather is fucked up we have fun … while not busy with the LANparty or the relating site www.lanpartys.nl I was helping my parents with there new store right here in my village … so you could say I had some busy day’s … and guess what … the day aint over yet !!! Well , ok … it runs , i glued the cabrio top , the lights are working , the top isn’t leaking anymore, the gearbox works good , and the car drove 1 meter ! the sound of the exhaust is great , cause I only have 1 muffler left ( the original from the JH engine , so nobody knows it’s an GTI now ) when the wires are all ok , I can start putting the interior in again , maybe even the Golf IV seats I bought … and the radio , and the new dashboard with the blue lights ! the car runs pretty well , the engine is pretty silent , only have to tighten the CV joints and fit some new pieces of hose for the cooling system , also need to replace the airco pieces from the interior by the origininal ones of a GTI …. and I want another stearingwheel … this one is ugly … I also made a small movie of the first start of the car !! it’s about 9 MB and has pretty good sound 🙂 download it here (captured in divx 5.0 ), or here ( divx 3.11 ) or even here ( Windows Movie File )

Yesterday I bought a new battery, and a new radiator cause the old ones were not verry good anymore… Yesterday was also my birthday (24), didn’t tell anyone , so that was a nice quiet day … today I will fit in the new stuff , and I will buy the last few parts for the engine , so I can let it run saturday … then the exhaust has to be fitted better , and the damn Powerstearing pump has to be refitted , cause it just doesn’t fit right whatever I try , it will not get in the right spot …
Also build in a new verry fast 60GB Maxtor harddisk into the P3 700 I’ve got here wich is property of a friend , It runs twice as fast now ! and it means that the server has a 20GB extra.

Well , Linux Redhat 7.2 works just fine , this is very strange … but anyway , it works … the only thing is that those firewalls are so extreme , that no Windows service works entirely, for instance MSN messenger , the videoconferencing doesn’t work , and I can’t recieve file’s through ICQ … save but no fun … The new server has a 30 GB harddisk , and soon probably also an 20 GB disk … so enough webspace I guess … 🙂 …. if I only had a little more upload … I really mis my T3 connection … My main PC and the other P3 I’ve got here have both been formatted en XP is reinstalled for the first time … so the complete network is fast now , only need an 100 Mbit hub and then the whole intern network is 100% …. Tommorow the Apache webserver will be running I hope , just as the FTP server … I’ve seen enough PC’s for this weekend …. bleh ….

Had some spare time so I spraypainted the server …huh ?? ..well … It’s allway’s in my livingroom and I don’t liked the lookes of it , so I spraypainted it .. lookes cool … but after that I wanted to get the thing running , I chose for FreeBSD as the operating system .. why ? because it’s superstable , hard to hack, and the firewalls are better adjustable … it’s the closest thing to UNIX … but the OS could not be installed on the machine, we haven’t got a clue why , tried 4 harddisks , 3 CDplayers , 4 simms … dunno …. damned … this morning at 5:00 AM whe decided we better go to bed , so damned … today we will try yo instal Redhat , maybe that will work … but the biggest change is that something is wrong with the hardware … CPU or mainboard …
But the server lookes cool …. 🙁

What a week , went to the Dentist who pulled 4 big teeth out of my mouth and filled 2 holes … damn … that doesn’t make me smile … Called in sick this week , because I couldn’t eat normal and my wrist hurts , so had some time for social stuff … spoke with some people from the old days and even went out a couple of times , damn , that feels good …
Today a friend of mine called me at 8:30 in the morning, he tells me he wants to help with the cabbyproject … so we worked on it for most of the day , the CV joints are ok now, the ignition is on time , everything is fastened now , and finnally we placed the powerstearing pump … the lower strutbar is replaced and everything seems to go well …. at last …. it has to be finished quickly now , cause it’s SO DAMN FRUSTRATING when other people drive in a cabrio with the top down and I drive an old Suzuki …. oh by the way the weather is awsome … damned.
I also had a verry nice present , a friend gave me his Pentium II 333mhz , so I’ve got a new server comming up soon , this baby allowes me to run a FTP server and a 100 MBIT network (beside the Apache and Samba server I allready had ), and at least 35GB of webspace, that should be enough , my internet connection is fucked up right now , the awsome T3 connection has been shut down , so I had to step over to another platform , that allowes me to get an upload of 140 kb/s but the download is horrible , only 100kb/s or so … that needs some getting used to … well … I’m going out tonight again with a large number of people , so I’ll better prepare myself for a heavy evening out in the city …. and I still have a hangover from yesterday …

Bummer ….. Had some time of to work on the car , but everything went wrong , the strutbar doesn’t fit at all , the ignition isn’t good , the exhaust doesn’t fit , the pump for the powerstearing isn’t in the right spot and so on … so I haven’t done anything useful, only cleaned the engine compartment more or less …
I broke 2 teeth , so my mouth hurts and the dentists are too busy to help me today … grrrrr … also when replacing the exhaust my wrist started hurting like hell , so now I’m at home again , can’t even type with 2 hands … but I do have some time to clean the house and stuff … 🙁 … the weather is great last few day’s , excelent for driving a cabrio, so that only frrrustrates me more , the thing has to work this week , otherwise I loose a bet I have with a friend …
Went to a small computerevent last sunday , bought some really cool CD’s there and some new cables for the camera and stereo , for the rest the prises were to high compared to the proses I’m used to pay … I can’t get a server from a friend of mine , he’s building a new one too , so I can get his old one … it’s an pentium II with an 333mhz processor … that could make a big difference , he has a website running there with over 300 visitors a day … www.fxp.nl ….

Yesterday I had some spare time to go to the yunkyard … needed some small stuff , and I like to just walk arround al the crashed car’s to look for nice stuff … I did not find the pully for the powerstearing , but I did strip a other red cabrio , it had exactly the same dash as mine , only the Dutch version , with a speedo meter in KM/H instead of Miles … So I’ve bought a new speedometer, a set of strips , some new pieces of interior …
After looking arround for some stuff for my friends Audi 80, I found a Golf 4 , it had crashed , but the interior was brand new … guess the car didn’t have more then 20.000 km on it when it came there . The car had 2 beautiful front seats , adjustable in height , heated , airbags and stuff … My friends assured me that they could build it in the cabby … so I bought them for only 45 Euro a seat … so now I have 2 brand new seats in my golf 1… I love the idea …
Also I fitted the new cabriotop … so that lookes much better too … finnaly it’s getting somewhere …

Had some fun with the camera, made some really stupid movies just to test the cam , and it workes fine , even in the dark . April is comming closer and closer , I made a sort of deadline for the car , 1 April I want to have the car running , so I took some days of . The rear shocks are fittet , I adjusted them so they are extremely stiff , hope the car can handle that , hope to make the rear stable in fast corners . Have some trouble with the altenator, can’t seem to fit the pullies for the powerstearing and my roof still isn’t replaced … This comming weekend I will go search for the right pullies and some small stuff on a yunkyard … Still haven’t found a fitting dash either … can’t wait to start the engine for the first time, but shit I’m not a mecanic , I have more knowledge on other fronts then in replacing old engines so I have to get some help on the electric system …
the Suzuki is getting worse every day , don’t think it will make it till the summer … I’m pushing it to it’s limmits every day , but it still workes fine … shit .. what am I doing behind the PC … got to get to work on the cabby … maybe I’ll upload some pictures of the KONI rear shocks and the roof … WEEKEND !!

Today I was testing my Pinnacle Studio PCTVpro a little , and I wanted to know what I could do with the s-video input . A friend offered to get his dad’s VHS camcorder with s-video output, and so he did , when I connected it to my TVcart I soon found out how to get the picture on the screen , and we were suprised by the great quality of it ! … then I had to find a way to capture it .. and I did … in AVI, that means a 3 minute video is something like 120 MB large ! … the quality was great but the size wasn’t ! … so then I had to find out a way to capture in smaller format then uncompressed AVI, and I started searching for DIVX capturing programs … after somewhile I found some software that can just do that … and we made some video’s , the ones that before were 120 MB now became 20 MB , so that’s better , the Quality isn’t bad and it has sound in MP3 format … This means I do not have to buy a digital videocam ! but I can do the same with an old VHS camcorder and a TVeditorcart …. that’s fun …
I called my brother in law to ask if he didn’t knew somebody who wanted to sell their old VHS cam to me , cause he workes at a photo/video store, but he told me that there wasn’t much good secondhand stuff comming in , cause most of the old Sony Camcorders are broken , just like the one from your dad he told me …. huh …. didn’t know my dad’s videocam was broken ?!? After a short phonecall to my dad I went to get the broken cam and found out that it worked fine as a capturing device hooked up to the PC through s-video , and after putting in a new tape I found out the camera was just fine … huh … went back to my parents and found out that the cam didn’t record well on certain tapes but just fine on some kind of old tapes …
so now I have an pretty good camcorder that workes just as fine as an brand new expansive digital videocam ! And an other funny thing , when I turned on my webcam program (webcam32) it recongnized the TV cart with the camcorder hooked up to it , so it workes as a webcam as well , as a matter of fact , it workes better then my own webcam’s , while some of them are supposed to be pretty good ones. In the dark it filmes pretty well to , and my webcam is not verry good in capturing images from far distance but this thing does that just great , so for the price of an ordinairy tvcart and an old cam , you’ve got youreselve a fine digitalvideocam and webcam …. I can imagine me driving my cabrio round the nurburgring making great video’s ! Today we tested an BMW 525d with the cam in it , and the images were fine , so the comming day’s I will make a holder for the cam and build it in the old Suzuki to should some action video’s of it … for as far as that’s possible in a 800cc car ! :-)))))))

Started Removing the old top , the old cabriotop was leaking so badly that after one night of rain the car had 10cm of water in it ! the planning is still to get the car running legal in April , hope I can find the time to work on it every now and then … The cabby is in the garage now drying a little , I also fitted those nice speed lifters, looks cool and works great . The engine is verry clean and it lookes better then a new one , hope it will work as well as it lookes … the engine has originally got 112 HP , the car is arround 950 kg , that makes me wonder how fast it is gonna be, if I see other cars with same specs it should go pretty fast , but I haven’t got a clue what kind of gearbox I’ve got … the gears are verry long that could just make the car slow in acceleration, but it makes it less nervous and gives it a high topspeed , guess it will drive over 200 km/h .
The LANparty was a succes again , played allot of RTCW, and I like it … got to get busy the next weeks with building a new website for the lanparty stuff …
At last , the engineswap( what a trash ! )
